Waldo Emerson Inn Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful recollection of the past. You enter directly into the 263-year-old keeping room with its hand-hewn oak timbers hung with dried flowers, pewter, and copper.
The original Dutch gambrel was constructed by one Waldo Emerson in 1753. Waldo, great-uncle of Ralph Waldo Emerson, the poet/essayist, made a tidy profit building clipper ships on the Kennebunk River behind the house.
The Inn offers romantic guest rooms each with working fireplaces, private bathrooms and heated marble tiled floors.
Waldo Emerson Inn Bed and Breakfast is truly a four-season inn. In spring, the inn and the town are abloom with tulips and daffodils. The air is brisk, the shops and restaurants are open, and the crowds are light. In summer, flowers abound in the inn’s gardens. Winter is a Wonderland Get-Away with plenty of activities like sipping hot coco on the town's new (free) skating rink or cross country skiing etc.
The Inn is located in the historic district between Kennebunk and (famous) Kennebunkport next to the beautiful Kennebunk River. It has a (detached) two story carriage house with commercial retail on the first floor and a two bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor with a separate entrance. The carriage house is a recent reconstruction (18 years ago) of the original (1753) vintage and architecture.
The Inn is located less than a short bike ride from Kennebunk’s beautiful beaches with great bike trails, fantastic boutique shops and art galleries
The Inn has a total of 14 rooms including 4 private rooms for the innkeepers on a separate floor.
Relax with a good book in the front of the warm fireplace in either of the two spacious parlors or in the shade of our large oak trees in the Inn's gardens.
