Listing Description

Hillcrest Manor, a Montgomery, Alabama is For Sale

Hillcrest Manor, a Montgomery, Alabama bed and breakfast, is a magnificent and grand mansion that was built around 1900 and has been listed on the Alabama Register of Historic Places.

Encompassing over 5,600 square feet and reputed to be one of the grandest homes built in Montgomery, the storybook mansion is the legacy of the late Judge and Mrs. Will Hill.

The main house has a commercial kitchen and a floral room. In addition to the four beautiful and unique Bed and Breakfast rooms, there is also a cottage/owners' quarters behind the Mansion which has a bedroom, living room, small bath, kitchen, and garage. Also on the property are a storage shed and a “storage barn” with a second story office space.

A rich pre-Civil War history (to include Wilson's Raiders encamping on the property on their way to the city) makes Hillcrest Manor a landmark in Montgomery, Alabama. With its stately columns, Hillcrest is an example of fine Roman Revival Architecture.  There is a stained-glass window, leaded glass doors, pier mirrors, crystal chandeliers and gold leaf cornices are all original to the house, as are many other furnishings.

Hillcrest Manor is located on a tree-lined street, situated upon a hill overlooking the Historic Garden District.  The mansion rests amid a private 1.91 acres of mature trees, lush gardens, colorful flowers, verdant manicured lawns and formal fountains and statuary.  There are approximately 65 parking spaces on the property.

Formally owned and maintained by the Montgomery Federation of Garden Clubs for nearly 50 years, the grounds are a discovery in themselves.  Weddings, receptions, and other private events have been held at the mansion since the 1940's when Judge Hill himself would perform small weddings in the home.  There is a Wedding Garden in a private and secluded area that is quietly tucked away among the 100 year-old trees, with an arbor dripping with wisteria and ivy under which there is a waterfall that cascades into a small pool and then flows by a small stream to a pond reflecting its lush surroundings.

Within 1.5 miles of the Mansion are numerous sites worth visiting: The Alabama Governor’s Mansion, The Alabama Capital, the First White House of the Confederacy, The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Montgomery’s Civil Rights Memorial, the Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration, The Hank Williams Museum, to name just a few.  Montgomery is also the home of The Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF) which is among the ten largest Shakespeare festivals in the world.  It is located at the Winton M. Blount Cultural Park along with the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
