The
Community Ypsilanti is home to the second largest historic district in Michigan. Across the Huron River is Depot Town, which offers an eclectic mix of charming shops and restaurants. Area eateries include upscale American cuisine, diners, railroad taverns, pizza, and authentic Mexican, Vietnamese, and Chinese food. The courthouse, police station, and fire station, library, and post office are also located within a few blocks of the Inn. The Parish House Inn is located one mile from the Eastern Michigan University campus. Within ten miles are Washtenaw Community College, the University of Michigan, Ave Maria University, Ave Maria Law School, Cleary University, and Concordia College. The Inn provides a convenient place to stay for parents visiting students and for faculty, visiting professors, and other guests of the universities. The automotive industry has had a large impact on the Ypsilanti area. The Ford Motor Company is the largest local employer. Ypsilanti has an Auto Heritage Collection museum that houses classic cars and memorabilia. The museum sponsors several classic auto shows and the weekly “Cruise” nights during the summer. Ypsilanti also offers The Michigan Firehouse Museum, an 1898 firehouse complete with 15 firetrucks and firefighting paraphernalia. St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the University of Michigan Hospital are also large employers. Along with the Parish House Inn, many local small businesses are involved with the Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce. Business clients appreciate the easy access to the Detroit Metro Airport (20-25 minutes) and the freeway (a half mile away). The Detroit suburbs and the city of Ann Arbor are both within a short drive of the Inn.
